Stride privacy policy

Effective October 13, 2026

JRWDevelopment publishes Stride. Contact support@jrwdev.com for privacy questions or support. This policy covers Stride's Android app, including its Google Play and direct-download editions.

Information on your device

Stride stores training-plan progress, workout history, timing, effort reflections, check-ins, badge progress, breaks, appointments, and preferences on your device. Optional outdoor GPS records precise route locations, distance, and activity details during workouts you start, including while the screen is locked. Optional local diagnostics record technical workout behavior, without route coordinates, recorded audio, or account identifiers. These records support coaching, your journal, and troubleshooting. Stride has no account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or server receiving your workout journal. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Permissions and choices

You can use the training plans without GPS or reminders. Location permission is used only for your enabled, user-started outdoor workout; Stride does not request Android's background-location permission or track between workouts. Notifications provide workout controls and optional reminders. Change these features in Settings or revoke permissions in Android Settings. Stride does not record microphone audio or read contacts, health records, or other apps' calendars.

Optional online street maps

Your recorded route is drawn on your device. Loading streets sends HTTPS map-image requests to the OpenStreetMap Foundation and its infrastructure providers. These requests include your IP address, a Stride application identifier, requested map areas, and technical request information. Viewed areas can reveal precise location; IP addresses can reveal approximate location. OpenStreetMap may retain service logs for operation, security, and service improvement. We do not control that retention. Stride does not send your full journal or a GPX track to OpenStreetMap.

In updated Stride versions, choose Load online streets after reading the disclosure to load map images, or keep using the offline route view. Earlier versions load street images when you open a recorded route. Avoid opening those maps if you do not want online requests. Cached map images may remain on your device until Android clears the cache or you clear app storage. OpenStreetMap's policy: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy

Speech and external services

Spoken cues use your selected Android speech engine. Its handling of text and network access depends on the engine and voice; a downloaded offline voice can avoid speech network access. Google Play handles store accounts, installation, updates, and its own services under Google's policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. The direct-download edition can contact GitHub to check for and download updates; GitHub receives network request information such as an IP address, but not your workout journal. The Play edition does not use that updater. GitHub's policy: https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/privacy-policies/github-general-privacy-statement

Backups and exports

Backups, activity exports, and diagnostic exports happen when you choose them. Files go to the local or cloud document provider you select, under that provider's policy. Backups are readable files and may contain precise routes; keep them private. Restoring a full backup replaces destination app data. There is no automatic cloud sync, and Stride disables its app-controlled automatic Android backup. Save a backup somewhere safe before replacing your phone or removing the app.

Retention and deletion

Your local records remain until you reset progress, clear app storage, or uninstall. Settings > Reset progress clears training progress, journal, routes, check-ins, breaks, badges, and local workout diagnostics; preferences and cached map images may remain. Android's Clear storage or uninstall removes local app storage. Delete exported files separately from their saved locations. We cannot access or remotely delete your phone's records or copies held by other providers. For provider-held records, use that provider's privacy contact or request process.

Support and younger users

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you send, and use it to respond and resolve your request. Do not send sensitive route files unless needed and you choose to share them. Contact support@jrwdev.com to request deletion of support correspondence, subject to records we must retain by law. Stride is intended for ages 13 and up, not children under 13. Younger users should involve a parent or guardian in choosing a suitable exercise plan and in privacy decisions.

Security and changes

Stride's map requests use HTTPS. Local data is held in Android app storage; exported files are not password-protected by Stride. No storage or transmission method guarantees perfect security. We will update this policy at the public policy URL and revise its effective date when practices change; material changes requiring a new choice will be explained in the app. The current policy is also available in Settings > Privacy policy.
